Really?

So I watch the Bachelor. Yes, it's a slightly shameful thing to admit, but there are worse things. I could be an alcoholic. That's worse. Or... well, that's about it. The only thing worse than watching the Bachelor is being a full-on drunk. But it's OK. I enjoy the drama. And the cat fights. Enough said.

Plus I love the evil women... the ones who are just there to get on TV. Michelle, for example. She knows this is a sham. She knows that true love isn't found on the TV screen. And she blatantly mocks and taunts the other girls. I love her. I hope she stays forever. Because she is the only one who seems to see it for the game it is.

Which makes me wonder... when the women get eliminated, why are they so SAD!?! Fully, 100% depressed, suicidally miserable and heartbroken. Really? How? It's only week three! Some of these girls haven't even been on a one-on-one date with the guy! And yet they are crushed.

The show is highly intruiging.

Really.

Treadmills and the need for upper body strength

So we bought a treadmill... seeing how I love running but it is ridiculously cold approximately eight months in the year, a treadmill was the logical choice. What could possibly be the downside? Especially because, due to Boxing Week Sales, we got a $2300 treadmill for just over $600.

Well... apparently a treadmill is heavy. Like, really heavy. Stephen called his dad and they tried to lift it.

Nothing.

They opened the box and brought the pieces of the frame in separately. Then they tried to lift the main part of the treadmill again.

Nothing.

So Stephen broke out the church's stake directory and called every able-bodied man in the ward, starting from the largest (and therefore the ones who should be strongest) and went all the way to the smallest, trying to find anyone who would be willing to assist. Many phonecalls later, he had his willing assistants.

So now, picture four, relatively strong, full grown men, trying together to lift and carry. Sweat. Grunts. Pain. Heaving. Finally... victory!

Although Stephen did come upstairs right after and moan about how much he hurt.

Heavy treadmill.

But tomorrow, I get to go running!

Thank you, Stephen!

And hurray for upper body strength in others.

Back to Work Observations

So today was my first day back to work after Christmas break. A nice long lovely break and then today. Sigh. But the good news is, I have discovered a few things:

1. It should be illegal to be ugly in public. Yet a lot of people are. Especially on transit.

2. People wear thongs even when it's cold and snowy out. Enough said. Yet another thing that should be illegal and punishable by death.

3. Having a picture of Stephen on my desk (see above) in my cubicle makes me a lot happier. Impressive.

4. People don't come back from Christmas happier than when they left for the break. Interesting.

5. Cookies someone left on my desk before the break still taste good two weeks later. Kudos to Ziplok bags!

6. I was just as eager to leave for home at the end of the day as I always am. So much for my new years resolution to love my job beyond belief. Fail.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

A Great Man

I met him on August 8, 2007.
President D. Michael Stewart, Mission President of the Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission.
He was a great man. When I found out that he had passed away, I was at work and I sat in my chair and cried. He taught me so many things...

- It is not sacrifice if you have ten shirts and have to give up one. It is sacrifice when you have one shirt and give it up. Sacrifice entails giving up all you have if need be.
- You can do great things.
- Kindness is more important thn anything else.
- Have faith be your motto, not fear.
- Open Your Mouth. Don't be ashamed of the gospel of Christ.

President Stewart, you rock.

New Year

It's a new year. My favourite time of the year, actually. I love the fresh start. Here are a couple of my goals for the year:
1. Stop eating potato chips. At least for a week or two. If I can manage this one until, say, the middle of January, then I'll be in good shape. Figuratively speaking, of course.
2. Lose ten pounds. Or even five. Just be able to fit comfortably into my jeans again.
3. Do yoga.
4. Get more toned. This goes along with number 2 and 3.
I have a few more too.
Here's the thing. The new year is a brand new beginning. Nothing bad has happened yet in 2011. And so it's really just a great new start. I love new starts.
Happy New Year, everyone!!
